Out of the Box

Why and how has your artwork been inspired by the collections?

Play & the different layers of imagination used to participate in it are important to my artistic endeavours. The way we learn to play in childhood can keep creativity fresh and engaging in adulthood.

The idea of the cardboard box as packaging and also an active ingredient in play appealed to me; how can we recycle materials in play? I was interested in the relationship between 'imagined' toys and dolls. How in my childhood was I affected by not having many black dolls easily accessible?

I aimed to confront theses questions in an exploration of colour and texture.
...Have been contacted by the V&A to present my work as a finalist in the Inspired by...
competition

"Participants create a work of art or craft inspired by the collections of either V&A South Kensington, the Theatre Collections Online or the V&A Museum of Childhood. Entries are judged by a panel of curators and the winners and other selected works are displayed in the museum of their inspiration. Winners in their category also receive a prize."
